TNDC Recap:
I was really looking forward to this location...who wouldn't as it's one of the few place open until midnight on a Tuesday. So imagine the disappointment when we arrived and they informed us they did not have a liquor license. Basically, they are 'upgrading' the license from just Beer & Wine to a license that allows for hard alcohol. Supposedly they would have the process completed in a couple days but unfortunately for TNDC we arrived in that 3-day window when they were not serving. With the addition of a liquor license they mentioned they will be getting bar stools as currently they didn't have any. Finally, most people come to this place to smoke so everyone was outside at the basically enclosed patio and the TNDC crowd was the only ones indoors so felt rather quiet. This place required a lot imagination on what it could be. Trying to stretch to find a positive it was noted that they did have Turkish coffee
We only stayed here for a non alcoholic drink and dessert before walking over to Behan's for a true drink. Walking down Broadway, we found a new wine bar that just opened up so for the second week in a row we will be adding another bar to visit. Total bars now 21.
Random Bar Thought: "At 10pm Royal Donut is a solid 7 but if you wait until 2am it magically jumps to a 10 out of 10."

TNDC Recap:
Nothing really stood out for this bar and that's not necessarily a bad thing. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was fine. Just a good solid location with nothing great or nothing bad. The main con though was the drinks were on the expensive side and then weren't on par with some of the other pricey locations such as Barrelhouse or Saltyard.
Random Bar Thought: "Eric gets an atmosphere of 5 at this bar"

Drink Specials: 1 ($9 for cheapest beer)

Fire Vine Grill & Bar @ The Hilton
600 Airport Blvd
Burlingame, CA 94010
TNDC Recap:
First the positives, they will validate your parking so you don't have to pay $20 dollars to get a drink. That's pretty much it for positives. Negatives include that it doesn't take advantage of being close to the water, No real atmosphere or even any music playing and the crowd wasn't very lively and kept to themselves. At least the TNDC crowd was happening with five folks making the drive across 101.
Random Bar Thought: "Tuesday is the perfect ending to my empty Wednesday"
Atmosphere: 1
Drink Specials: 2 ($7.50 for domestic macrobrew)
Location / Parking: 4 (Parking is validated. Might need to confirm if this is case at other hotel bars)

Bar #15

Trapeze
266 Lorton Ave
Burlingame, CA 94010
TNDC Recap:
This is a difficult place to rank. First, massive bonus points as the Kitchen closes at 9 but they still brought out food around 9:30 for two TNDC participants. This is all the more impressive as the TNDC crowd is pretty much the only ones in the restaurant. Also, super nice in that they didn't close early (listed closing time is 10pm) even though the place was not busy at all. This brings up the negative in that it was completely dead. When we arrived there was only two people eating in the restaurant and no one at the bar. Maybe a good place to go to get a quiet drink as there will be no one making noise. Also, did have a single TV behind the bar in case you wanted to catch a game or something.
Random Bar Thought: "Looks like the most popular place" women not part of TNDC entering bar without knowing all the folks was part of the TNDC crowd
Atmosphere: 3
Drink Specials: 3 ($7 for Budlight)
Location / Parking: 4
Crowd: 1 (No people at the bar and only two people in entire restaurant at 9pm)

Limón
1101 Burlingame Ave
Burlingame, CA 94010
TNDC Recap:
Another rather disappointing TNDC location. The first issue is that although their very own web site (as well as google maps and other locations) say it's open until 9:30 we were promptly kicked out at 9:00....Strike One. Continuing on the closing early theme, they are stacking tables and chairs at 8:45 and giving off the vibe you need to leave doesn't create a welcoming environment...Strike Two. When compared to Myknos and their comment of "We close when you leave", here the bartenders just felt off and wanted to get out of there as close to 9 as possible. Strike Three and your OUT. Definitely better places for a Tuesday night drink. At 9:00 we proceeded to head over to Paddy Flynn's for the second week in a row.

Saffron
209 Park Rd
Burlingame, CA 94010
TNDC Recap:
I hate to write bad things about a place but Saffron just didn't have a good vibe for drinking. Remember, these reviews are only drinking and do not take into account food / restaurant. First, the place felt very sterile with not much decorations on the wall and was very bright. Also, the place was completely dead with no one at the bar and few tables taken in the restaurant. At the 9:30 closing, we were the last folks in the place and promptly left to head over to Paddy Flynn's.
Random Bar Thought: "Who just sat down at our table" - Fellow diners as a random person just walked in and sat at their table for 1 minute

Flights 101 Club Lounge @ Marriott hotel
1800 Old Bayshore Hwy
Burlingame, CA 94010
TNDC Recap:
For a hotel lobby bar, this place was probably the best in Burlingame and would win the hotel bar category. First, the place was packed with people and everyone seemed very social. Also, you had a bit of a view out onto the water and a pretty cool light feature above the bar adding to the ambience. They had some TVs for watching sports but not enough to make it a great place to catch a game. The big down side is having to pay for parking (1-3 hours @ $24) or you could park across the street for free.
Random Bar Thought: "None"
Atmosphere: 3.5
Drink Specials: 1.5 ($8.77 for domestic macrobrew)
Location / Parking: 0 ($24 for 1-3 hours)
Crowd: 4 (12 men / 2 women at the bar, more people enjoying drinks at surrounding tables)

TNDC Recap:
Mykonos was everything Benihana should have been and then some. The Restaurant and Bar had a great energy and exuded fun. There were a couple large parties in the restaurant celebrating a birthday, upbeat music playing and great staff. The only downside was they were not pouring stiff drinks.
Random Bar Thought: "We close whenever you are done" - Bartender on when they close
Atmosphere: 4

Benihana
1496 Old Bayshore Hwy
Burlingame, CA 94010
TNDC Recap:
If you are looking for social, fun and entertaining BARTENDERS then Benihana's is your place. First, let me stress this is ranking soley the bar and not the restaurant. With that said it felt very average and no different than a Benihana found in say Ohio. We definitely think there was an opportunity missed by not having the bar take more advantage of providing water views being that they are located right on the bay. If feels like the water is an after thought. Another oddity was the bartenders taking their liberity to create their own draft beer blends. Did your Kirin Ichiban beer not poor right, no problem let's top it off with Sapporo. In general the bar just felt a bit off, could use a fresh coat of painted and was missing all the fun and excitement you get when dining at the restaurant.
Random Bar Thought: "When I get a new job I have to find all (the camera) dead spots" - Bartender
Atmosphere: 2 (Could use a coat of paint)
Drink Specials: 2 ($8.22 for budlight)
Location / Parking:4
Crowd: 3 (2 men / 2 women. Very quiet)
Bathroom: 4 (Seemed more recently updated than the restaurant.)

Bar #9
|
Saltyard Restaurant and Bar
322 Lorton Ave
Burlingame, CA 94010
TNDC Recap:
If you are judging a bar by the number of bottles behind it, then this place is the best bar in Burlingame. In addition, the actual bar (e.g. countertop) is high quality and one of the best around. If you want to go admire a good slab of wood then this is the place to do it. A couple negatives included the lighting made the place seem a bit dark and their single big ice cube added to drinks isn't as impressive as say the Barrelhouse. With that said, the bartender was great and mixed a great looking cocktail (see random thought).
A couple of non bar items included how Mizz gave his son a Washington Wildcat T-shirt for Christmas and said it was from the Wildcat. This started the conversation which eventually ended with the decision that there should be a Wamjam raffle item for the winner to select a house for the wildcat to visit and TP it. On the flip side, at Wamjam you could buy insurance that would prevent the wildcat from visiting your house.
Random Bar Thought: "Should I drink this or should I take a picture of it" (Referring to the beauty of the ordered drink)
Atmosphere: 4.25 (I think one of my favorite bars)
Drink Specials: 1.5 (No domestic macrobrews so 8.77 dollars for their cheapest beer)
Location / Parking:4
Crowd: 3.5 (Lots of folks in restaurant, 2 men at the bar)
Food: 4 (Originally 3.75 but rating increased as food was consumed.)

Twelvemonth
330 Lorton Ave
Burlingame, CA 94010
TNDC Recap:
What a great addition to the Burlingame Nightlife scene. This was the first time I've been in Twelvemonth and I was left wondering what took me so long. The bar area is completely separate from the restaurant and provided a perfect upscale bar like atmosphere. Don't expect any TVs or sports watching here, it's all about drinking and the company. In addition, on warmer days they had a great outdoor area to hang out in. The main negative is they had newer bartenders still learning the ropes but they should get better over time. Because of the newer bartenders, last call was very early as they needed more time to close up the bar.
Random Bar Thought: "This is the place to go if your marriage is not working out (see Crowd below)"
Atmosphere: 5 (I think one of my favorite bars)
Drink Specials: 1.5 (No domestic macrobrews so 8.77 dollars for their cheapest beer)
Location / Parking:4?(All TNDC participants walked)
Crowd: 4.5 (14 people, 11 women and 3 men)

Bar #7
|
Farm & Vine American Bistro
248 Lorton Ave
Burlingame, CA 94010
TNDC Recap:
As our first restaurant bar visit for TNDC and it was the day after Christmas, I had very low expectations but Farm & Vine plesantly surprised. Was this enough to overcome the negatives, I'm not sure but overall was a great place to grab a drink. The bar part of the restaurant had 12 seats and a single TV with a NBA basketball game on. The atmosphere gave off a good vibe and felt very comfortable to hang out and chat with friends. The main issue is the cost as it was on the high end of things but let's see how this compares to other restaurants.
From the TNDC crowd, it was learned that if you have young kids you don't know who Mr. Beast is. Probably a good thing for young kids not to be on youtube.
Random Bar Thought: " Why is there a Mr. Beast logo on the Charlotte Hornets jersey? Who knew he was a sponsor of an NBA team"
Atmosphere: 4.5
Drink Specials: 1 (It was pricey but for some reason I didn't write down how much. I think 9 dollars for Michelob Ultra)
Location / Parking:5 (Parking spots right in front but it was the day after x-mas)
Crowd: 3 (3 people at bar while 16 at restaurant but dies down quickly right at 9:00pm)

The Barrelhouse
305 California Dr
Burlingame, CA 94010
TNDC Recap:
If you are looking for a place that is focused on delivering high quality drinks, then the Barrelhouse is your place. Forget about the tiny water cups that basically feel slightly larger than a double shot glass....why are you even drinking water here. Forget about the ice to drink ratio of straight bourbon....how cool is it that they use one large ice cube in your glass (note: they reuse the ice cube for your second glass which seems to provide more drink). This is the place to be if you are looking for a great drink and plenty of space to hang out with your friends. Also, this place had by far the largest non-tndc crowd with a good mix of both men and women by the end of the night. Thanks to the Pasta Palooza planning session that occurred beforehand, this was also the largest TNDC event yet with 15+ folks.
A couple TNDC items were decided including that bathrooms should be added to the ranking as well as if you attend over 5 TNDC events then you are provided with your own drinkingclub.org email address.
Random Bar Thought: " The bathroom is too clean, can you trust a bar with such a clean bathroom"
Atmosphere: 4.5
Drink Specials: 1 (The highest price yet but no macro brew sold here so had to go with the $9.87 Barrelhouse Brewing Company IPA)
Location / Parking: 4
Crowd: 4 (at start of night 12 folks, 8 men / 4 women but by 10pm 25 peopls with a 13 men/ 12 women ratio)
Bathroom: 3.5 (Going against what others might have saw, I felt this was a very average bathroom)

Bar #5
|
Hyatt 3Sixty
1333 Old Bayshore Hwy
Burlingame, CA 94010
TNDC Recap:
Are your friends annoying you, does no one want to go grab a beer with you, well fear not as the Hyatt is full of travelers who are very social and will hang out with you for an evening. Big Picture, not a bad bar but definitely not a 'locals' hangout with nothing standing out and some major negatives. First, any bar that charges 22 dollars for 2 hours of parking should just be eliminated. You could park on the street a block away to avoid fee but isn't very convenient. After getting over the parking issue, you find a bar that sits in the hotel attrium with views of the hotel rooms which takes away from the atmosphere. Surprising, the drinks weren't too expensive given the hotel location and the food looked really good. Big picture, the bar area felt off and although it had a lot of different seating options from lounge areas to high top tables to bar seats it just wasn't a favorite.
The main item from the night was the discovery of a hidden lunch spot. Tucked behind the Hyatt with only a small sign from the road was 'Mr Teriyaki Sushi'. Seemed very random but in looking them up online they do have good reviews. Definitly worth a follow-up visit.
Random Bar Thought: " Why is there a CA Tourism Fee on our bill?"
Atmosphere: 2
Drink Specials: 2 ($6.69 coors light. $6 beer + 0.58 tax + 0.01 CA Tourism fee)
Location / Parking:0 ($22 dollars for 1-6 hours of parking)
Crowd: 4 (30ish folks, all folks staying at hotel)

For the Kids - Holiday Gift Program! |
American Bull Bar & Grill
1819 El Camino Real
Burlingame, CA 94010
San Mateo County Children's Holiday Gift Program:
TNDC GIVES BACK
During this week's TNDC, we will be supporting San Mateo County Holiday Gift Fund. This program provides gifts to children who typically do not receive some or any presents. During TNDC, we will use the county's
Amazon Wishlist and purchase a number of presents. We will ask TNDC participants to forgo one drink (or more) and have the money instead apply towards a gift. The more people attend, the more money we will raise and the more children we can provide presents for.
"The Children’s Fund Holiday Gift Program puts smiles on thousands of children’s faces each holiday season.
We serve foster and low-income children, newborn to age 18 (or AB12 foster kids up to age 21) who are referred by their case manager, probation office, social worker, or public health nurse.
Children submit a wish list and volunteers help us fill their “wishes.” All the gifts are new and all are donated by general community members.
In many cases, the gifts we provide are the only ones that the child receives."
https://www.smcgov.org/childrensfund/holiday-gift-program
TNDC Recap:
After ordering a drink and settling in for TNDC we noticed the bar died down very quickly only to learn the bar closes at 9pm. Evidently, if there is a Warriors game on they will stay open later. Then we learn that tonight was special as it was carpet cleaning night. First, we were confused on why would you install carpet in a bar but then we had to give them credit for having such clean carpet.
Per the rules of the definition of a bar (open pass 9pm) unfortunately we will need to disqualify this location. This bar had so much potential as we loved the large number of TVs to catch a game and the various seating options.
After getting kicked out, we headed to Paddy Flynn's for some extra TNDC time.
Random Bar Thought: When the bartender is leaving maybe it's time for us to go as well
Atmosphere: 4 (All about Sports, Most TVs in a bar in Bgame)

Bar #3
|
Paddy Flynn's
246 Lorton Ave
Burlingame, CA 94010
TNDC Recap:
The consensus was that Paddy Flynn's was a good proper bar with a great atmosphere, lively crowd and a good bartender. We were surprised by how crowded it was and similar to previous weeks TNDC, there was a large after work crowd that gathered. In addition, there were a number of groups staying at local hotels and flying out of SFO in the morning and they came by to catch the Warriors vs Kings NBA game that evening. It was also noted that this place accepts credit card unlike another Irish bar in Burlingame. The one downside is that do not offer food but one can bring food in which brought up the idea that they should partner with door dash where one could scan a QR code at your seat and have food delivered directly to your table.
Second, this was a very productive TNDC in that we were able to provide a better definition of what constitutes a bar including the idea of 'Millability' (the ability to mill about) and the importance of being able to talk to you neighbor. Both items were added to the bar definition at the top of this page. Also, considered whether if one felt the obligation to order food should be added to the definition but for now this was left off.
Random Bar Thought: Why is there a dog in the bar and what is it eating
Atmosphere: 4*
Drink Specials: 4 ($4.75 Coors Light)
Location / Parking: 4 Easy parking out front on Tuesday night
Crowd: 4 (About 30 folks, 24 men / 6 women)
*Needs to take into account 'best in breed' aka during dog show, rankings our broken up by breed.

Tap and Tavern @ The Embassy Suites
150 Anza Blvd
Burlingame, CA 94010
TNDC Recap:
We were pleasantly surprised by the bar. It was large and spacious, looked like a great place to watch a football game and had a friendly bartender. The main downside is that it closes before anything good can happen with a 10pm shutdown. Some folks walked in around 9:50ish and were not served. Although no specials, we did request with the manager the creation of the ‘dog house special’ where you can get drinks and a discounted room when your wife is mad since you are out drinking. This evening we learned that ChatGPT cannot provide reviews of specific locations so this web site is all human authored.
Random Bar Thought: From random guy at bar to Chris wearing his Washington Softbal Jersey "If you are wearing a Washington Nationals baseball jersey I would question your mental stability"

Behan's An Irish Pub
1327 Broadway, Burlingame, CA 94010
Burlingame, CA 94010
TNDC Recap:
Behan's was a great location to start TNDC EXCEPT that it is a Roosevelt Dad's club bar.
Roosevelt's team was their celebrating their victory from earlier that evening and as you look around you see
a large picture of the 2022 Roosevelt 2022 Softball fall champions. If you look beyond this,
you will see a great bar with good atmosphere. Bonus points to the bar for having shuffle board table
Random Bar Thought: From sign above bar: "Authentic Irishman for hire. Storytelling and signing
